October 10, 2010- Famed Argentine polo player Nacho Figueras, the face of Ralph Lauren’s Polo Fragrances, and his team Black Watch, faced off against Rico Mansur and team Veuve Clicquot at the inaugural match of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic this past Sunday. A crowd of over 2,000 braved the 90 degree temperature to watch Black Watch defeat team Veuve Clicquot 8-7 in a very grueling yet sexy match. Black Watch team captain Nacho Figueras scored three goals and player Carlos Gracida of Black Watch was awarded MVP.

The heat wasn't the only thing that made the LuxLady swoon. She had the immense pleasure of interviewing Mr. Figueras after his team's victory. He has been working with Veuve Clicquot for the past three years in organizing an event that would bring polo to the masses. The annual classic held at Governor's Island in New York drew a crowd of 13,000 this past summer. It is his hope that the game of polo will gain in popularity with Californians.

The VIP Marquee housed star-studded attendees such as Minnie Driver, Johnny Lee Miller, Rachel Zoe, Mischa Barton, Brittany Snow, Tony Okungbowa, Jesse Williams, and Donovan Leitch, who were encouraged to don "Great Gatsbyesque" attire. VIP guests were treated to a decadent champagne bar which included a vintage rosé in addition to the yellow label, and a buffet of prawns with herbed chimichurri, cedar planked maple horseradish salmon, lobster bisque, baby lamb chops, scones and strawberries.
As always with Polo, class distinctions were made evident by the physical separation of the "VIP"s from the masses. Though the match was free and open to the public, those not invited into the pristine, white tents were relegated to the opposite side of the polo field where they had a cash bar of Veuve Clicquot champagne and their choice of food trucks. Many in attendance brought picnic lunches as they had to sit in the grass if they didn't bring a chair. C'est la vie.
The event was held at Will Rogers Polo Field which is located in Pacific Palisades and proceeds helped support the Will Rogers Ranch Foundation and Will Rogers Polo Club. One dollar from each Champagne flute sold was donated specifically to the Ranch Foundation.
Earlier in the day, the LuxLady enjoyed the breathtaking views at the home of Carmen and Gary Stiffelman, better known as the Entrenza House, which served as the venue for the 1st Annual Children Raising Children event. Celebs Alison Sweeney, Rebecca Romijn, Jerry O'Connell, Holly Robinson Peete, CCH Pounder and Rebecca Creskoff supported actress and AMF (The African Millennium Foundation) Ambassador Lindsay Price in her efforts to raise awareness and find proactive solutions to the global crisis of the milions of orphaned and vulnerable children.
Celebrity chef Curtis Stone wowed guests with his culinary presentation of five, dynamic, global food stations while musician Kenny Lattimore sang some of his popular ballads. Additionally, guests could bid on auction packages that included a dream kitchen worth $45,000, an African Safari,a Napa Valley getaway, Prada gift basket and front row tickets and backstage access to New York Fashion week. Proceeds from the event will support A Nossa Costra and Ms. Price's documentary Sending the Orphans Back.
